First group of Moroccans Stranded in Ceuta repatriated

The repatriation of Moroccans stranded in the enclaves of Ceuta and Melillia continued Friday bring back home some 300 Moroccans from Ceuta.

After an initial repatriation operation from Melillia was carried out last weekend, some 300 other people were repatriated from Ceuta on Friday. According to Moroccan authorities, around 150 to 200 other Moroccans are waiting to return home.
The first returnees from Ceuta will stay in quarantine for 14 days in a hotel in the northern Moroccan city of M’diq, reported Spanish channel RTVE.
The first group repatriated from Melillia last weekend is being quarantined in the Mediterranean resort of Saidia to make sure they are coronavirus-free.
Many who were not shortlisted for the repatriation process have staged a protest at the border, expressing their frustration and impatience to come home.
To prevent the spread of the new coronavirus, Morocco closed its land borders on March 13 with the Moroccan enclaves of Sebta and Melilia. It also suspended flights to and from Spain, as well as maritime passenger traffic, which is usually very heavy in the Strait of Gibraltar.
The repatriation operation from the two enclaves are seen as the beginning of the repatriation of over 30,000 Moroccans stranded abroad since the coronavirus outbreak.
