Morocco: Smuggling attempt of over 6 tons of cannabis foiled at Guergarate
Moroccan security services foiled on Friday a smuggling attempt of 6.3 tons of cannabis at the Southern Guergarate crossing point on the borders with Mauritania.
The drug haul was found by the customs and police agents in a truck registered in Morocco and heading to an African country. The banned substance was concealed in a shipment of cardboard. The 36-year driver was arrested.
A police investigation is underway to identify, capture and bring to justice all those involved in this major smuggling attempt.
This drug-busting operation is part of the sustained efforts deployed by the security services of the Kingdom at its southernmost tip of Moroccan Sahara, in combating regional & international drug trafficking and dealers.
