Sofitel Agadir to close business end of June

Sofitel Royal Bay in the Moroccan southern Atlantic coastal city of Agadir will cease operating on June 30 as the lease contract comes to an end, Aujourd’hui.ma reports.

Sofitel Agadir Royal Bay’s owner, ABS Holding, and the facility operator RISMA agreed not to extend the contract, which took effect in 2004, over the obsolescence of the facility that begs refurbishment to meet the five star standard.

Though Sofitel Agadir Bay will close, Sofitel Agadir Thalassa Sea & Spa also operated by Risma will remain open.

Risma, controlled by RMA Group, Accord Group, is the leading tourism operator in the kingdom with 27 hotels in 11 cities. It is also the most prominent investor in the tourism sector in Morocco, MAD5 billion (over $507 million) over 26 years. The company employs 2,663 people.
