A Moroccan 80-year-old woman recovered from the coronavirus becoming the sixth case to get rid of the disease in the country where total cases soared to 170.

Morocco also reported 5 deaths and continues to monitor the health of 2158 contact cases to avert the spread of the virus.

The regional distribution of coronavirus cases shows a concentration of infections in Casablanca region with 42 cases followed by Rabat-Sale-Kenitra 40, Fez Meknes 36, Marrakech 22 and Tangier 11 with the rest of regions with single digit cases.

Head of the Moroccan counter pandemic center said that a cluster was reported in Meknes among tourists returning from an Arab country. Sources said he was referring to Egypt where a group of Meknasi tourists travelled recently.

Morocco has also adopted a treatment protocole of serious coronavirus cases based on chloroquine and hydroxycholoroquine.

The country has set up a special fund to upgrade health services and offset the social and economic consequences of the pandemic.

Total donations for the fund exceeded 23.5 billion dirham representing nearly 2.7% of Morocco’s GDP, making Morocco the fourth in the world to allocate resources as a percentage of GDP.
