Global Firepower Index 2020: Morocco Moves up to 56th Rank
Morocco has improved its ranking in the 2020 global firepower index (GFP), which provides latest data on 138 military powers. The North African Kingdom has been ranked 56th powerful military in the world in 2020.
In 2019, Morocco ranked 60th but this year, the Royal Armed Forces (FAR) moved upward gaining four spots. They ranked behind the armies of Hungary (55th) and Slovakia (54th).
The GFP ranking is based on each nation’s potential war-making capability across land, sea and air with conventional weapons.
Egypt ranked 9th in the 2020 GFP list, Algeria (28th), South Africa (31st), Nigeria (44th) and Tunisia (78th).
According to the GFP annual review, Morocco has an estimated 510,000 military personnel, including 310,000 active personnel. Global Firepower report says the Kingdom has 1,443 tanks, 2,901 armored vehicles, 505 self-propelled artillery, 200 towed artillery and 144 rocket projections. The country also has 64 helicopters, 3 frigates, 4 corvettes, and 105 patrols.
The US continues to take the lead of the top five powers in the world. Russia comes in the 2nd place followed by China, India and Japan.
