Nearly two tons of cannabis seized near Moroccan city of Agadir

Moroccan security services foiled on Tuesday another major drug smuggling operation in the region of Agadir where they seized one ton and 770 Kg of cannabis inside a  truck.

The truck’s driver, 44, and his companion, 28, were arrested in this drug bust, says a press release issued by the Moroccan national police.

The preliminary probe showed that one of the nabbed men has a criminal record.
Investigators are now looking into the possibility of a link between this smuggling attempt and international criminal networks involved in drug and ecstasy trafficking.

This drug busting operation shows the sustained efforts made by Morocco to combat drug smuggling, an endless battle that needs coordinated international actions and strategies to counter this growing scourge.

Police also seized harder drugs, including 542,455 kilograms of cocaine, 7,196 kilograms of heroin, and 1,407,451 psychotropic tablets, including 974,983 ecstasy tablets importe d from Europe.
