Morocco Gains Seat at Executive Board of Arab Tourism Council

Morocco was elected Monday member of the executive board of the Arab tourism council convened in the Saudi city of Al-Ahsa (328 km east of Riyadh).

Bahrain, Jordan, Iraq, Egypt and Tunisia were also voted members of this board for a two-year mandate. The election took place during the 25th session of the Executive Bureau of the Arab Ministerial Tourism Council and the 22nd Council of Arab Tourism Ministers, held Sunday and Monday in Al Ahsa.

Morocco was represented at the meetings by ambassador to Saudi Arabia, Mustapha Mansouri.

Participants agreed to hold the 26th session of the executive board of the Arab tourism ministerial council in Cairo and decided to name Manama as the capital of Arab tourism for 2020.

They approved Arab strategy for boosting cooperation between Arab countries in this industry, discussed tourism security challenges and coping mechanisms.

The session updated standards for choosing the Arab tourism capital, and reviewed the decisions of the second joint meeting of the Arab ministers of Culture and Tourism held in October in Tunis.

The session also stressed the imperative need to encourage Arab and Islamic tourism investments in Palestine and to protect historic sites against Israeli attempts to distort the Arab-Islamic identity of this holy city.
