Morocco leading African country in infrastructure, industry- PM says
Morocco is among Africa’s best performing countries in industry, scientific research and infrastructure, said Head of the government Saad Eddine EL Othmani.
Morocco comes on top of African rankings for best highways and motorways as well as best rail network and largest ports, said El Othmani.
“This is the result of well-thought strategies,” he said, adding that Morocco is Africa’s first car manufacturer and exporter and a renewable energy leader.
Tanger Med port, already the biggest in Africa, opened its new extension late June boosting its container handling capacity to 9 million.
Morocco is also showing the way for the rest of the continent in the field of renewable energy and energy security as it marches steadily towards meeting the goal of generating 52% of its electricity from renewable sources.
In the field of industry, Morocco unseated South Africa last year from the top of the podium of African car producers. The North African country produced 402,000 cars in 2018, a number which is set to increase as PSA plans to produce 100,000 cars in its Kenitra factory while Renault expects to produce 500,000 in its Tangier and Casablanca plants.
