Morocco to play host to First African Para Games next year

Morocco agreed Tuesday to host the first Africa Para Games to take place next year following an agreement with the International Paralympic Committee.

The event according to the agreement will take place in January and will gather around 1,200 disabled athletes of the continent in capital Rabat.

The athletes will compete in several sports including blind soccer, goalball, powerlifting, sitting volleyball, taekwondo and wheelchair basketball, Japanese media NHK World reports.

The event will also double as qualifiers for the Tokyo Paralympics scheduled to start in late August 2020, the Japanese media notes.

The African Paralympic Committee hopes to use the event to promote para-sports on the continent.

The continental future event will take place every four years.
