Morocco, France Underscore Time-honored Partnership

Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his French peer Jean-Yves Le Drian held their first ever meeting in Paris, an opportunity to celebrate the longstanding ties of win-win partnership and cooperation between the two countries.

The meeting between the two ministers was held in Le Château de La Celle-Saint-Cloud where in November 1955, the agreements marking the end of the exile of the late King Mohammed V and the royal family were signed and initiating Morocco’s transition to independence.

‘“This is a very symbolic venue in Moroccan-French relations that embodies the shared history between the two countries,” said Bourita.

He said the meeting was a chance to exchange views on a range of issues of mutual concern, adding that the two countries are called upon to discuss important regional issues, such as the situation in Libya on the eve of an important meeting in Italy.

The two officials who have been coordinating stands at international forums also discussed a set of global issues including challenges relating to migration ahead of the UN Global Compact for Migration to be held in Marrakech in December.
