Algeria Faces Cholera Outbreak

Algeria Faces Cholera Outbreak

A scandal! That is how Algerian press described the outbreak of Cholera in Algeria twenty years after it was eradicated.

The health ministry confirmed that 41 people have contracted the disease in Algiers, Blida, Tipazza and Bouira, although doctors deem the number lower than the real scale of the outbreak.

Jamal Fourara, an official from the health ministry, estimated that 88 cholera affected people are lying in the country’s hospitals.

The outbreak of the disease is blamed on drinking dirty water after the failure of the drinking water distribution networks.

Other doctors ascribe the surge of infections to unhealthy living conditions in Algeria’s poor neighborhoods.
