Good Crop Year Boosts Morocco’s Economic Prospects for 2018
Morocco expects its GDP to grow by 3.6 percent this year as the crop year augurs well with an exceptional yield of 103 million quintals.
Abundant though late rainfall starting in December ushered a good crop year with the breakdown in cereals varieties of 49.1 million quintals for soft wheat, 24.5 quintals of hard wheat and 29.2 million quintals of durum, the Agriculture and Fisheries Ministry said in a statement.
The yield is 7.3% higher than last year’s, which was also a good crop year.
The sown area was 4.5 million hectares compared to 5.4 million hectares a year earlier, the ministry said.
