Ban on International Football Matches in Libya to be Lifted soon- FIFA Says

Libya will soon be able to host international football games, FIFA President Gianni Infantino told Libyan officials in a letter.

Libyan authorities have addressed a request to FIFA to lift the five-year old ban as the Libyan national football squad was obliged to play games on foreign fields.

A FIFA delegation visited war-torn Libya to see if conditions are propitious for hosting games.

The ban was imposed in 2013 as the North African country sank to an abyss of infighting and instability.

Since then, Libyan clubs and national team have played international matches in either Mali, Egypt or Tunisia.
