Tanger Med Port Attracts More Investors
After Bosch, Huawei, 3M et Decathlon, Emirates Logistics Group has teamed up with Adidas AG, the German sports clothing manufacturer, to open a 13,000 m3 logistics hub in Morocco’s Northern Tanger Med port.
The warehousing and distribution center will handle around 5 million Adidas products destined for North and West Africa markets.
For Abdelkader Amara, Morocco’s Minister of Logistics & Transport, the opening of this platform shows the trust placed by foreign investors and logistics professionals in Morocco and its Tangier Med Port, offering businessmen a competitive Mediterranean strategic hub.
Salah Ibrahim, executive director of Sharaf Group, part of Emirates Logistics, said that the Emirati group chose to install its regional logistics platform in Tangier due to its unique geostrategic position between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean. According to Salah Ibrahim, the Tangier Med port facility is one of the most important industrial centers in North Africa.
Located on the Strait of Gibraltar, this global logistics gateway is connected to 174 ports worldwide with handling capacities of 9 million containers, exports of 1 million new vehicles, transit of 7 million passengers and 700,000 trucks on an annual basis.
The Tanger Med port, Africa’s hub, serves nearly 35 ports and 21 countries in West Africa thanks to weekly connections. A maritime bridge between Europe and Africa, the port allows a crossing of the strait by ferry in less than 45 minutes.
More than a port, the Tanger Med complex is an integrated logistics and industrial platform, connected to a multimodal transport network (highway and expressway links) for the transport of goods and people to all economic regions of the Kingdom.
More than 750 companies are already operating in this platform. These companies represent a yearly export turnover in excess of €5,500 M in various sectors such as automotive, aeronautics, logistics, textile and trade.
Emirates Logistics said it is proud to have signed 30 years strategic partnership with Tanger Med. It is one of the first ventures to construct its own facility inside the logistics free zone.
Based in Dubai, Emirates Logistics provides sea-air freight services, customs clearance and logistic solutions adapted to each customer to meet its unique business needs.
