TAQA Morocco Secures $133 Mln Green Funding for its 96 MW Boujmil Wind Farm

TAQA Morocco, a subsidiary of Emirati energy group TAQA, has secured $ 133 million financing for the first phase of its Boujmil wind farm in northern Morocco.

The funding has been provided by four Moroccan banks: Banque Centrale Populaire, Attijariwafa Bank, Bank of Africa, and Saham Bank.

The Boujmil wind farm is expected to start producing electricity in the second half of 2027. During its first stage of operation, the wind power plant will deliver 96 megawatts. After its full development, the plant will increase its capacity to 144 MW and generate enough electricity to meet the needs of 120,000 households.

This project will also help to prevent 250,000 tons of CO2 emissions annually and contribute to creating significant direct and indirect employment opportunities.

TAQA Morocco started building Boujmil wind park in the fourth quarter of 2025. At the time, the company expected to finalize financing in the second quarter of 2026.

TAQA Morocco says securing this first green financing represents a pivotal step in implementing the group’s energy diversification strategy seeking
to progressively build a portfolio of sustainable energy infrastructure and strengthen its position in the renewable energy sector.

This wind energy project represents not only a commercial milestone but also a tangible contribution to Morocco’s environmental commitments and its transition toward cleaner energy sources.

Founded in 1997, TAQA Morocco has established itself as a major electricity producer through its coal-fired Jorf Lasfar power plant, which has six units with a combined capacity of 2,056 MW.

The company currently supplies over 30% of Morocco’s national electricity demand and intends to continue diversifying its operations as part of the Kingdom’s energy transition roadmap.
