Morocco’s Hassan II stadium emerges as natural choice for 2030 World Cup Final

Fouzi Lekjaa, president of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) and the Morocco-2030 Foundation, has made a compelling case for the Grand Stade Hassan II in Benslimane to host the final of the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

Speaking on the 2M TV channel, Lekjaa highlighted the stadium’s planned capacity of 115,000 seats, currently the largest among all venues proposed by the three co-hosts.

“The final should go to the stadium with the greatest capacity. For now, that is the Hassan II Stadium,” he stated.

Construction is advancing steadily and is expected to finish by early 2028, nearly two years ahead of the tournament.

This early delivery will allow the Atlas Lions, as well as Casablanca clubs Wydad and Raja, to play in the venue before 2030, building atmosphere and operational experience.

Beyond football, Lekjaa emphasized the project’s transformative impact. The stadium forms part of a major urban and infrastructure upgrade for Greater Casablanca, including new regional express rail and high-speed train links.

“In the coming years, we will see a different Greater Casablanca,” he said. Lekjaa also recalled King Mohammed VI’s vision for the centenary World Cup as a bridge between the two shores of the Mediterranean, promoting shared history, coexistence, and youth exchanges.

Morocco’s determination to host the final reflects both sporting ambition and a broader commitment to delivering a world-class African showcase on home soil.
