Football arbitration court CAS to issue AFCON 2025 verdict in November

Morocco is awaiting a final ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after Senegal appealed a decision that ultimately awarded the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations title to Morocco following disciplinary proceedings before the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

According to CAS, a decision on the appeal filed by the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) against CAF and the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) is expected by the end of November after a closed hearing was held in Lausanne on Oct. 8, Morocco’s Le Matin newspaper reported.

Morocco maintains that the matter should be assessed on the basis of CAF’s disciplinary regulations and the decisions taken by the continent’s governing body.

The FRMF argues that the title was awarded following an established disciplinary process and that CAF’s rulings must be respected unless overturned by the sport’s highest arbitration tribunal.

CAS said its arbitral panel is deliberating and will issue a fully reasoned award explaining the legal basis for its decision.

The case goes beyond the outcome of a single match and touches on the integrity of football governance in Africa.

Rabat’s position is that competitions must be governed by the same rules for all participating teams and that sanctions imposed under CAF regulations should remain enforceable.

Until CAS reaches a final decision, Morocco considers the title attribution valid and in force.
