Morocco will help Mauritania upgrade a 480-km Nouakchott-Nouadhibou road to improve transport and facilitate trade between the two countries. An agreement has been signed lately in Rabat on this project part of Royal Sahel initiative designed to enable African landlocked countries access to Atlantic sea ports and international markets.
This joint road project is making the Algerian rulers extremely nervous after seeing their regional luster fading away as Mauritania has taken sovereignty decisions serving its own geostrategic interests.
According to Morocco’s Ministry of Equipment, the rehabilitation of the Nouakchott-Nouadhibou axis will improve connections between the two countries’ road networks and make travel easier for transport operators and businesses. It also aims to ease trade flows, support trade and investment between the two countries.
Morocco is exporting to Mauritania its experience in road construction and engineering after succeeding in building a 1,055km highway named after President Donald Trump. The impressive highway, which cost nearly $ 1 billion, is connecting the city of Tiznit to Saharan cities of Laayoune and Dakhla.
The Tiznit-Dakhla expressway is more than a road. It is a road of peace for prosperity. It is the longest in Africa. Across its 1,055 km, the highway connects cities, ports, markets and people. Under the royal initiative to provide Sahel access to the Atlantic Ocean, President Donald Trump Highway strengthens the link between the Atlantic and Sahel States and reinforces Morocco’s Southern provinces as a strategic gateway between Africa and the World.
Building on the success of the Tiznit-Dakhla highway, Morocco will engage in another challenging Mauritanian road project forming a continuous corridor further into the African continent. It opens up areas long defined by distance, unlocking the region rich potentials and laying the foundations for a new era of co-development.
The Nouakchott-Nouadhibou road, a natural extension of the Tiznit-Dakhla highway, strengthens the long-standing friendship and cooperation between Morocco and Mauritania, two neighbours united by shared strategic vision and win-win partnership. Nothing can stand in the way of regional integration and prosperity.
