Moroccan-Pakistani security cooperation discussed in Rabat

Security cooperation between Moroccan and Pakistance was at the focus of a meeting held in Rabat Monday between Director General of National Security (DGSN) and Territorial Surveillance (DGST), Abdellatif Hammouchi, and Acting Inspector General of Police at the Pakistani Ministry of the Interior, Salman Choudhry, who is on a working visit to the Kingdom at the head of a large security delegation.

The two parties reviewed various aspects of cooperation in security matters, ways to promote this cooperation and expand its scope, the aim being to coordinate joint efforts to address security challenges, including in the fight against irregular migration networks and human trafficking.

The meeting actually follows the recent shipwreck off the coast of Dakhla, which resulted in the death of several Pakistani nationals, a statement by the DGSN-DGST Cluster said.

The meeting provided an opportunity for the Pakistani official to express his country’s highest authorities’ thanks and gratitude to Morocco, for the intervention and rescue efforts made for Pakistani nationals, who were victims of an international irregular migration network.

The two sides also discussed the importance of bolstering cooperation in the fight against terrorism, in view of the heightened terrorist threats to the security of both countries, given their geographical proximity to hotbeds of tension where groups affiliated to Al-Qaeda and Daesh are active.

Prospects for upgrading security cooperation, through the exchange of experiences, expertise, and good practices, as well as the exchange of data in the fight against the risks and threats to the security of the two countries and their citizens were thoroughly discussed at the meeting.

This visit reflects the importance of security cooperation between Morocco and Pakistan, as key partners in international counter-terrorism efforts and the fight against transnational organized crime, the statement stressed, adding that it also highlights the strong commitment of the departments of the DGSN and DGST in international actions aimed at neutralizing risks and threats to regional and international security.
