U.S. Gentex Corp, a producer of auto-dimming mirrors, has announced plans to establish a production site in Morocco by 2028 to serve the European vehicle market.
The American company had signed a letter of intent, selected a location and received the Moroccan government’s support for creating the local entity to produce electrochromic mirrors and advanced electronic modules.
The establishment of a plant in Morocco is driven by European customers’ requests for local support for vehicles built and sold in the region. Gentex is a global technology company specializing in the design and manufacture of automotive and aerospace products.
The company’s primary business centers on automatic-dimming rearview mirrors, advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), and camera-based driver monitoring technologies.
In the automotive sector, Gentex supplies exterior and interior mirrors with integrated electronics, connectivity features, and safety capabilities to many of the world’s leading original equipment manufacturers (OEMs).
Morocco’s automotive industry is Africa’s leading car manufacturer, anchored by major production plants from Renault and Stellantis, and supported by specialized export-oriented free zones.
The industry size was valued at $4.29 billion in 2025 and estimated to grow from $4.76 billion in 2026 to reach $8.45 billion by 2031, at a CAGR of 12.15% during the forecast period (2026-2031).
European manufacturers are increasingly turning to Morocco as their go-to near-shoring hub, drawn by the Kingdom’s stability, resilient and cost-effective supply chains. Stellantis is expanding its capacity in Kenitra, while Renault is making moves in both Tangier and Casablanca. These expansions, coupled with enticing incentives from free zones and a rapidly maturing supplier base, are propelling the Moroccan automotive market to new heights.
Morocco is the European Union’s top non-EU supplier of vehicles and the country’s battery-electric initiatives are attracting Chinese giants from the battery materials sector.
