A Sudanese Army drone strike has killed several displaced civilians in Sudan’s Blue Nile region, according to rights group Emergency Lawyers. The group said the attack occurred on Thursday, July 23, 2026, when a drone targeted a gathering of displaced people in the southern Badia area of Blue Nile State. Preliminary reports indicate that dozens of people were killed or injured, with women and children among the victims.
Blue Nile has witnessed months of fighting between the Sudanese army and an alliance involving the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N), led by Abdel Aziz al-Hilu. The conflict has forced thousands of civilians to flee towards Ed Damazin, with many facing shortages of shelter, grazing land and humanitarian assistance.
Emergency Lawyers condemned the reported attack, saying strikes targeting civilians protected under international law could constitute a serious violation and may amount to a war crime if proven to have been deliberate or indiscriminate.
The rights group called for an independent investigation, accountability for those responsible and the establishment of safe humanitarian corridors to provide urgent assistance to displaced communities.
The alleged attack came days after a visit by Saleh Issa, a member of the Presidential Council and governor of the Central Region under the “Tasiss” coalition, to displacement sites housing people who fled fighting in Sinnar State.
