Morocco’s King Represented at Funeral of Bernadette Chirac by Princess Lalla Meryem

King Mohammed VI has been represented at the funeral of Bernadette Chirac by his sister Princess Lalla Meryem.

Upon her arrival at the Basilica of Sainte-Clotilde where the funeral service was held on Friday, Princess Lalla Meriem was greeted by Claude Chirac, daughter of the deceased, before taking her seat inside the church alongside France’s First Lady Brigitte Macron and several dignitaries attending the funeral service, held in an atmosphere of solemnity and deep emotion.

Also present at the funeral were former French Presidents Nicolas Sarkozy and François Hollande; French political figures; and friends and relatives of the Chirac family.

The King had sent a message to Claude Chirac following the death of her mother, where he expressed his sincere condolences and compassion to Claude Chirac, as well as to all members of her honorable family and her loved ones.

“The Kingdom of Morocco will cherish the memory of a figure of great distinction who faithfully embodied a rich legacy of human, family, and patriotic values. We pay tribute to the memory of a woman who, alongside President Jacques Chirac, a sincere friend of Morocco and its people, consistently demonstrated her esteem for the Kingdom,” the Monarch had emphasized in his message.
