Somalia reaffirms support for Morocco’s territorial integrity
Somalia has reiterated its steady support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the Sahara.
This came during a bilateral meeting in Rabat between Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Somali counterpart, Abdisalam Abdi Ali.
In a joint statement issued after the talks, Minister Abdi Ali expressed satisfaction with the adoption of UN Security Council Resolution 2797, which endorses Morocco’s autonomy initiative under its sovereignty as the basis for a just and lasting solution to the Sahara issue.
He hailed Morocco’s “serious and credible efforts” to resolve the regional dispute over the Sahara, while reaffirming Somalia’s full backing for the efforts of the UN Secretary-General and his Personal Envoy.
Somalia voted in favor of Resolution 2797, adopted on October 31, 2025, marking a clear stance in support of Morocco’s autonomy proposal as the only viable framework for a definitive settlement.
