Mauritania marks 64th Independence Day with presidential decrees, reforms
Mauritania marked its 64th National Independence Day on November 28 with important announcements from President Mohamed Ould Cheikh El-Ghazouani.
In a televised address, President El-Ghazouani announced several measures aimed at improving the welfare of teachers, the military, and public sector employees. He revealed that teachers in the sixth year of basic education will receive a monthly allowance of $500.
Additionally, soldiers and security agents will see a $375 increase in their monthly pay, while non-commissioned officers will receive an extra $250. The President also instructed the government to speed up talks with social partners about raising the minimum wage and to begin a study on reforming the retirement system for public sector workers to improve conditions for retirees.
These steps reflect the government’s commitment to improving social welfare and economic stability as the nation celebrates its independence.
The president also decorated, Thursday at the Presidential Palace in Nouakchott, several personalities as part of the activities commemorating the sixty-fourth anniversary of national independence.
