Landslides kill at least ten in DRC
Devastating landslides triggered by heavy rains killed at least ten people in the South Kivu Province in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Seven children were deplored among the dead as research for missing people is still ongoing, local media reported.
The landslides destroyed seven homes completely and damaged 31 others, as poor urban planning and inadequate infrastructure make communities vulnerable to extreme weather patterns.
Climate change is causing more intense and frequent rainfall across Africa. Earlier this year, heavy rains in southwest Congo caused a ravine to collapse onto a river, resulting in at least 12 fatalities. Similar incidents last December claimed numerous lives.
