At the instructions of King Mohammed VI, Princess Lalla Hasnaa, accompanied by Ms. Brigitte Macron, on Tuesday inaugurated the Royal Theater of Rabat, a structuring project that reinforces the ecosystem of the City of Light, Morocco’s cultural capital.
After unveiling the commemorative plaque, Princess Lalla Hasnaa and France’s First Lady followed a presentation on the interior architecture of the Royal Theater of Rabat, before touring the Theater’s various outbuildings.
This iconic building is a concrete expression of the solicitude King Mohammed VI has constantly shown towards art and culture. The location, aesthetics, and innovative technology of this new theater represent a major turning point in Morocco’s cultural landscape.
This large-scale cultural project, which is part of Rabat’s development program, contributes to strengthening the cultural infrastructure in the Kingdom’s regions and promotes Morocco’s cultural prominence throughout the world.
The unique design of the Royal Theater, a symbol of great modernity, adds a contemporary touch to the capital’s architecture, making it not only a venue for artistic performances, but also a work of art in itself.
The theater, located in the heart of the Bouregreg Valley, next to the Hassan Tower and the Mohammed V Mausoleum, stands as a symbol of the cultural and artistic renewal of the Kingdom’s capital. It shall breathe new life into Morocco’s cultural momentum, promote a modernist approach to Moroccan art, and enhance creative capacities.
The Royal Theater of Rabat, designed by the late architect Zaha Hadid, covers an area of 7.1 hectares, including 25,400 m2 of built-up area. The building’s shape blends harmoniously into the Bouregreg Valley.

The auditorium, featuring a unique design, based on a distinctive and innovative geometric walls and ceiling, can host a wide range of artistic and cultural events (plays, dance shows, ballet, opera, musicals, symphonic and philharmonic concerts, as well as other forms of live performances).
Destined to be a world-class facility, the Royal Theater of Rabat’s auditorium boasts acoustics that meet the highest international standards of insulation. Sound quality inside the auditorium is exceptional, with acoustic architecture and engineering designed to deliver an immersive sound experience for spectators.
A removable ceiling in the form of an acoustic reflector also forms a central element and represents a singularity.
The Royal Theater of Rabat includes a second 250-seat auditorium, open to all forms of cultural expression in their many and varied styles and genres, designed to become a springboard for Morocco’s new artistic scene.
An outside amphitheater, with a capacity of 7,000 people, is designed to host festivals and other major events.
