Egypt unveils Fourth National Plan to combat illegal migration for 2024-2026Egypt launched its fourth national action plan to combat and prevent illegal migration for 2024-2026.

In a recorded speech aired during the launch of the plan on Thursday, Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly highlighted Egypt’s strong commitment to addressing the serious challenge of illegal migration, which affects both advanced and developing nations. He noted that while migration is a global phenomenon that enriches societies, illegal migration often occurs under unsafe conditions, negatively impacting individuals and countries alike.

The new action plan focuses on key pillars aimed at reducing the factors driving illegal migration, including prevention, protection, reintegration, governance, and regional and international cooperation. It aims to raise awareness of the risks associated with illegal migration, provide safe opportunities for youth, and strengthen the capacities of national entities fighting migrant smuggling.

The plan will involve collaboration among various national partners, including government agencies, the private sector, and civil society, alongside regional and international partners. Madbouly emphasized the importance of building a strong society that enables citizens to pursue their dreams through safe means that uphold their dignity.

He reiterated that illegal migration is a shared challenge that requires collective action, urging the international community to enhance cooperation in combating this issue. Notably, Madbouly mentioned that Egypt has hosted over 9 million migrants in recent years, a figure that has increased due to recent regional events.
