Tunisia’s incumbent President Saied set to win presidential election

The Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE) has announced that the preliminary results of the 2024 presidential election will be released today, Monday, October 7, 2024, at 7 p.m. during a press conference at the media center in the Palais des Congrès. In compliance with Article 144 of the Electoral Law, the ISIE will display the results at its headquarters immediately following the announcement.
Simultaneously, the results will be published on the ISIE’s official website, along with copies of the vote-counting minutes from all polling stations. This step is designed to enhance the transparency of the electoral process by ensuring that the public has full access to detailed voting information. The publication of these minutes will allow for transparent oversight of both the voting and the counting procedures, giving voters a comprehensive view of the election outcomes.
In a poll conducted by a private institute and aired on national television on the evening of October 6, outgoing President Kaïs Saïed is projected to win the election with more than 89% of the vote in the first round.
ISIE has only officially disclosed the voter turnout so far, which stood at 27.7%, the lowest participation rate for a first-round presidential election since the fall of Ben Ali’s regime in 2011.
Najla Abrougui, a member of the Independent High Authority for Elections (ISIE), stated the possibility of canceling the votes obtained by presidential candidate Ayachi Zammel. The latter is currently imprisoned in connection with cases related to electoral sponsorships. This possibility is based on a legal basis that makes the measure “conceivable and possible.”
