President Macron to visit Morocco late October, Elysee

French president Emmanuel Macron is expected to pay a visit to Morocco by the end of October, according to the Presidential palace, the Elysee.

The visit would take place on October 29-30, sources told le360, as the two countries build on the momentum created by Paris support for Morocco’s territorial integrity, ending a period of diplomatic frost.

The Elysee said King Mohammed VI sent an invitation letter to Macron highlighting “the positive horizons for the two countries.”

The visit will give impetus to “our exceptional partnership” in different strategic fields, the Elysee quoted the Royal letter as saying.

The letter recalled the clear French support for Morocco’s autonomy plan as the only basis for a solution to the regional dispute over the Sahara.

In July, Macron had sent a letter to the King stating that France considers the Sahara as part of Morocco’s past, present and future sovereignty and that his country will act accordingly.
