UMA: Libya Exposes Algiers Lies and Denies Tripartite Agreement on New Maghreb without Morocco
The bumbling Algerian regime continues to embarrass itself and lose credibility by trying to deceive the regional and international community with its old dirty games and political machinations which are no longer working.
The latest fumble and slap in the face of the reckless Algerian rulers came from Libya’s Presidential Council which belied Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune remarks saying that he had reached an agreement with both Tunisia and Libya to form a new Maghreb entity, excluding Morocco and Mauritania.
In a statement published by Al-Marsad newspaper, the Libyan Presidential Council said: “We were surprised by President Tebboune’s talk to the media about an agreement reached with him and Tunisia to form a Maghreb entity gathering the three countries”.
A Presidential Council source, cited by the daily, said the tripartite meeting (Algeria, Tunisia and Libya) convened in Algiers on the sidelines of a forum of gas exporting countries—focused on joint security and economic cooperation, borders management and various other issues, especially the situation in Gaza.
The Libyan Presidential Council affirmed that “it stands on the same distance from all brothers in the Maghreb countries and supports their unity, sovereignty and the settlement of differences through constructive dialogue and rejects any dispute that will affect the region in general and Libya in particular”.
Two days ago, Head of Libya’s Presidential Council, Mohamed Al Menfi conferred with Tripoli’s Foreign Minister on ways to activate the role of the Arab Maghreb Union as the ONLY entity gathering its five member countries: Morocco, Libya, Mauritania, Tunisia and Algeria.
