OCP Group, Jet Energy announce a mega project of four photovoltaic plants in Morocco
The world’s leading producer of phosphate fertilizers, OCP Group, has announced the launch of the construction of four photovoltaic plants in the mining cities of Benguerir and Khouribga in Morocco. This large-scale project, with a total capacity exceeding 200 megawatts (MW), represents a crucial step in OCP’s sustainable development strategy, and translates its growing commitment to renewable energy.
The implementation of this project has been entrusted to Jet Contractors and its subsidiary Jet Energy, making it the largest photovoltaic program ever undertaken in Morocco. The four plants, totaling 202 MW, will directly supply the energy needed for OCP’s industrial activities in the country.
OCP plans to establish two photovoltaic parks in Benguerir, one with a capacity of 22 MW on an area of 38 hectares, and another with 45 MW on 80 hectares. The other two plants will be erected in Khouribga, one with a capacity of 30 MW over an area of 52 hectares in Foum Tizi, while the other, with a capacity of 105 MW, will cover 168 hectares in Ouled Fares.
The plants’ main objective is to provide on-site clean energy to OCP’s industrial sites. Benguerir and Khouribga, possessing the world’s major phosphate reserves in Morocco, represent about 70% of the known global reserves to date.
This initiative, in line with the group’s desire to reduce its carbon footprint while increasing the production of green fertilizers, also constitutes a significant advance for the renewable energy sector in Morocco. This major involvement in the construction of leading energy infrastructure reinforces OCP’s role as a driver of the development of the Moroccan industrial ecosystem, in line with its ambition to achieve “Carbon Neutrality” by 2040.
