Morocco, a gateway for US investments in Africa

Marrakech is currently hosting the US-Africa business summit, a forum that connects the business community in Africa and the US to prospect for win-win investment opportunities in the African infrastructure sector.

Holding the event in Marrakech “is an enshrinement of the natural role of the Kingdom as a gateway to Africa and a link with its international partners such as Europe, the United States and South America,” Morocco’s foreign minister Nasser Bourita said at the opening of the event.

“The strong presence of more than 1,000 participants in this Summit highlights the important and promising prospects of the partnership between Africa and the United States in the field of trade, investment and business,” he said.

“It is time for Africa to reap the benefits of its countless potential and its dynamic youth, and to play its central and natural role on the international scene and in the major developments taking place at the global level,” he said.

In recent weeks, Morocco hosted multiple events addressing Africa’s key economic issues including the meeting of African Union finance ministers, African Development Bank shareholders meeting and the launch of the African sovereign investors forum.

Morocco is matching words with action as far as promoting intra-African cooperation and economic solidarity are concerned.

The state-controlled phosphates and fertilizers company OCP has offered 550,000 of fertilizers to African countries, including 180,000 in donations as the continent struggles with surging prices and lack of supply.
