Morocco’s irrigation companies CMGP § CAS join forces to expand in Africa
Morocco’s irrigation and farming technologies firms CMGP and CAS recently announced a merger with eyes on expanding activity in the African continent.
Following the merger, the new company will be called CMGP-CAS and will pool efforts to ensure the expansion of efficient irrigation and agricultural water management technologies to enable greater output and sustainability in agricultural production, the two companies said in a statement.
The aim is to generate up to 20% of revenue from activities across Africa, CMGP head Youssef Moamah told Reuters, adding that the presence of Moroccan banks in the continent was a facilitating factor.
The company already has a presence in Senegal and Côte d’Ivoire and plans to expand its African activity to Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia, he told Reuters.
With combined sales of MAD 1.7 billion, the newly merged companies will work to pioneer solutions in irrigation, fertigation, crop protection and solar energy to combat key challenges in Africa such as water scarcity and food security.
