COVID-19: UAFA to slash Mohammed VI Champion Cup prize money

The Union of Arab Football Associations, UAFA, organizer of the Mohammed VI Champions Cup, will scale down the prize money for the championship as result of the covid-19 pandemic economic impact.

The competition, suspended in March due to travel restrictions because of the pandemic, will soon resume, Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal reportedly said last week adding that the new dates for the semi-finals and the final will be decided this week.

 

Moroccan Arabic media Assabah reports that the union has decided to cut down the rewards to be given to teams. The teams have not been informed yet of the decision, the media said.

 

According to initial plans, the winners will receive $6 million, runners-up $2.5 million, semi-finalist $500,000, quarter finalists $200,000, second tour teams will get $50,000 each while all participating teams will bag $20,000 each.

 

Morocco’s Raja are still in the tournament though they lost the first leg of the first semi-final against Egypt’s Al Ismaily. The second semi-final opposes Saudi Arabia’s Al Ittihad and al Shabab.
