EU supports Morocco’s education sector with $150 mln

The EU will offer $150 million in support to Morocco’s education sector in its efforts to promote distance learning which has become vital amid a lockdown to counter the coronavirus outbreak.

In this regards, the EU, Morocco’s finance ministry and education ministry signed a deal to help invest the money to promote Morocco’s educational offer, the EU’s delegation in Rabat said in a statement.

The aid will also be spent to promote ties between schools and pupils’ parents, it said.

Following the coronavirus outbreak, the EU said it will redirect €450 million in aid to Morocco to help the north African country face the consequences of the pandemic.

Morocco has closed all schools and asked students to follow courses online and on national televisions to avert contagion.

So far, hotspots in factories and families have increased the number of coronavirus cases in Morocco to 4,246, but recoveries outnumber deaths by far standing at 739 compared with 163 who unfortunately succumbed to the virus.
