Sudan: FBI to help in investigation on assassination attempt on Prime Minister

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has sent a team of investigators to Sudan to help probe the failed assassination attempt that targeted PM Abdalla Hamdok.

Sudan culture and information minister Faisal Mohammed told reports that a FBI team landed in capital Khartoum Wednesday in view of providing relevant expertise and techniques for this kind of case, The New Arab reports, adding that following the attack, Sudan asked for international assistance.

The team is reportedly made of three agents.

Hamdok survived Monday a road bomb attack after a blast targeted his convoy in capital Khartoum. No one claimed responsibility for the attack.

Several people including foreigners have been arrested in connection with the incident, the information minister also told the media.

Hamdok was appointed last year to lead a three-year transition team composed of members of the army and civilians.

The army in April ousted former leader Omar Bashir who ruled the country for 30 years. A group of civil society movements had challenged the army to hand over the power to civilians.
