Polisario’s nightmare in Geneva

The polisario is living a nightmare these days in Geneva as members of the sahraoui population living in the Tindouf camps made the trip to the European capital to reveal the truth about the everyday life in these camps where abuse and torture are common practice.

Last week, Sahrawi activist & human rights defender, El Fadel Breika, denounced, before the UN Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in Geneva, the repression and serious abuses committed by the Polisario against the inhabitants of the Tindouf camps and urged the world human rights watchdog to hold Algeria accountable for these abuses, as Algerian intelligence and security services were accomplices in such acts.

Echoing him this week, Polisario dissident Mrs. Lemaadla Zroug denounced before the UNHRC ongoing 43rd session the ordeal of the families of missing Sahrawis.

She underlined the years-long sufferings of her own family since her father, Mohammed Salem Zroug, was kidnapped by Polisario militias few months before she was born and was reportedly tortured to death.

Till now, Polisario leaders continue to refuse to tell Zroug’s family where their loved one was buried, she deplored, noting that hundreds of Sahrawi families were suffering from the dispearance of their members whose fate remains unknown.

“Despite the efforts made by the families of the victims to know the whereabouts of missing persons, we have not received any information from the High Commissioner for Refugees, Algeria or the Polisario leaders although some of the separatist leaders admitted to committing these crimes”, said Mrs. Zroug.

The Sahrawi activist condemned in this connection the silence and lack of responsiveness from international bodies and NGOs, particularly the High Commissioner for Refugees and the Human Rights Council regarding the horrific crimes perpetrated by the Polisario in the Tindouf camps.

She added that the armed militias of the Polisario are emboldened by the absence of accountability prevailing in these camps as the host country (Algeria) refuses to shoulder its legal responsibilities in a blatant violation of international charters and as the international community holds no one to account.

She insisted that the silence of the international community on these violations encourages their perpetrators to carry on their criminal practices, and urged all international bodies to pressure the host country to honor its international obligations towards the Sahrawi populations on its soil”.

The testimonies of El Fadel Breika and Lemaadla Zroug revealed to the world the truth of what is going on in the Tindouf camps, debunking the allegations of the Polisario and its Algerian mentors that reports on human rights abuses in the camps are a mere Moroccan propaganda.
