Morocco: Journalist Omar Radi Gets Temporary Release on New Year’s Eve

Moroccan justice has decided to grant provisional release to journalist and human rights activist Omar Radi, who was detained last week for a tweet criticizing a judge.

Radi, 33, will appear in court on January 2 and will be released, according to his lawyer Omar Benjelloun.

The vocal journalist was arrested on Thursday for his tweet posted in April, criticizing the verdict of an Appeals judge against members of the Rif “Hirak”.

Radi had requested a pretrial release on medical grounds as he suffers from a severe form of asthma and other ailments. His arrest triggered uproar from human rights activists who staged demonstrations requesting his release.
