Morocco Orders Two Spain-made Patrol Boats worth €260 Million
Morocco’s navy will be bolstered with the acquisition of two Spanish patrol boats made by Navantia, state-owned shipbuilding company, which offers its services to both military and civil sector.
The deal, worth €260 million, was reported by Far-Maroc, a website specializing in Moroccan defense news.
“Morocco is in a pressing need of patrol boats of such quality as it seeks to assert its sovereignty over its territorial waters,” Far-Maroc said.
The boats, dubbed Avante 1400 boats, designed to patrol coastlines, have a capacity for 35 crew members and 29 additional people as well as a landing space for a helicopter.
Navantia also operates a plant in Casablanca specializing in maintenance and boat part making for Morocco’s navy.
Navantia is the fifth-largest shipbuilder in Europe, and the ninth-largest in the world with shipyards around the globe.
