Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency, which operates under the Al-Quds Committee chaired by King Mohammed VI, provided, on Wednesday, emergency aid to the Arab Orthodox Charitable Shelter Association for the Sick and Disabled. The assistance will enable the association, located in the Al-Eizariya neighborhood (east Al-Quds), to continue its humanitarian mission on behalf of 46 residents suffering from complex mental and physical disabilities.
The aid, funded by the Moroccan Association for Support of Reconstruction in Palestine, includes various medical equipment and supplies, as well as a shipment of food, cleaning and disinfectant products, intended to ensure the continuity of services at the shelter and to help its administration meet the basic needs of the residents, most of whom come from low-income families whose contributions cover only 2 to 4 percent of the cost of care
Speaking on this occasion, the director of the Governor’s Office for Al-Quds in Al-Eizariya and the southeastern neighborhoods of the Holy City, Amani Qoreï, stated that this facility is facing a serious financial crisis, which has been exacerbated since October 2023, by a decline in government support. She emphasized the importance of the Moroccan aid provided by Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency in meeting the residents’ basic needs.
Qoreï conveyed the gratitude of the Al-Quds Governorate to the Kingdom of Morocco for its steadfast support, particularly through initiatives aimed at all segments of the Al-Quds population, the most recent of which is the “Aouna” campaign, to support Palestinian farmers during the olive harvest season.
For her part, the president of the Orthodox Charitable Shelter Association, Diana Machhour explained that the facility provides approximately 300 meals daily for residents and staff, while some members of the care teams are forced to spend the night there due to travel difficulties caused by roadblocks and closures. She noted that this aid will cover a significant portion of the residents’ needs for about two months, depending on consumption levels at the facility.
This aid is part of Bayt Mal Al-Quds Agency’s programs aimed at supporting social institutions in Al-Quds and its surrounding areas and strengthening their capacity to ensure the continuity of their services for the most vulnerable populations.
