Morocco’s Nawal El Moutawakel was elected Vice-President of the Islamic Solidarity Sports Association (ISSA), representing Africa and Latin America, for the 2026-2029 term, on the sidelines of the 15th General Assembly of the organization, held Saturday in Taif, Saudi Arabia.
El Moutawakel’s election to this position marks a new step in her career and strengthens Morocco’s presence within international sports bodies.
The elective General Assembly also re-elected Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Faisal Al Saud as President of the ISSA for a new term. Gennadiy Golovkin of Kazakhstan, for his part, was elected Vice-President, representing Asia and Europe.
El Moutawakel currently serves as Vice-President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), of which she has been a member since 1998. She has also held several senior positions within the Olympic Movement, notably serving as IOC Vice-President from 2012 to 2016, as well as Chair of the Coordination Commission for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
