Morocco’s National Institute for Agricultural Research (INRA) has held a working meeting with the Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR) and the University of Queensland to prepare a new project on conservation agriculture and soil health in Morocco, Aujourd’hui le Maroc reports. The initiative builds on a memorandum of understanding signed between INRA and ACIAR in February 2026, which opened new avenues for cooperation in research, innovation and capacity building between the two institutions.
According to INRA, the project aligns closely with the objectives of Morocco’s Génération Green 2020-2030 strategy, particularly regarding the sustainability of farming systems, resilience to climate change, preservation of natural resources and improving farmers’ living conditions. It is intended to contribute to developing solutions adapted to Moroccan conditions, supporting more resilient and sustainable agriculture built on better management of soil health and natural resources.
The project could also fit within the framework of the Africa-Australia Partnership for Climate Responsive Agriculture, offering further opportunities for cooperation and support between the two regions. In the coming days, the visiting delegation is expected to continue discussions with several national actors involved in conservation agriculture, soil health and agricultural innovation in Morocco.
INRA describes these exchanges as illustrating the importance of an integrated, partnership-based approach, mobilizing research, innovation and the expertise of different stakeholders to support the sustainable transformation of Moroccan agriculture, as the institute continues building its network of international scientific partnerships in the agricultural sector.
