The Algerian junta and the Iranian regime are proven allies in terrorism, arms trafficking and regional destabilization. Their alliance has been exposed again and confirmed by Russian cargo vessel Lady Mariia that was lately struck with drones in the Mediterranean Sea.
According to press reports, Lady Mariia was carrying Iranian weapons and military equipment. It was attacked by multiple aerial drones in the central Mediterranean, while sailing east after departing Oran, Algeria. The attack took place east between Crete and Libya.
A footage posted by Ukrainian intelligence services shows UAV-dropping dozens of explosive devices onto the deck, cranes, and funnel area of the 126.88-meter Ro-Ro ship, causing fires without causing major hull penetration or structural failure.
The precision strike targeted cargo-handling systems and shipboard infrastructure to disrupt independent heavy-lift logistics without attempting to sink the hull.
The Lady Mariia was sanctioned by U.S. and Ukraine for weapon shipment between Syria and Russia. Now, it was caught red-handed transporting Iranian weapons loaded from the Algerian port of Oran. Intelligence reports had warned against the Algiers-Tehran axis of evil and their connections with Polisario and terrorist groups operating in the Sahel and North Africa.
The Polisario militants had used on many occasions Iranian-made rockets in their attacks against civilians in the Moroccan Saharan city of Smara, raising serious concerns over these unprovoked and unjustified aggressions seeking to undermine efforts towards peace and regional stability.
