More than 2.74 million Moroccans settled abroad arrived in the kingdom by August 3 as part of this year’s Marhaba operation, a 0.45 percent increase from the same period last year, according to Omar Moussa Abdellah, Marhaba operation supervisor at the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity.
Speaking on Radio Tanger-Med, Moussa Abdellah said 287,518 vehicles had entered the country by August 3, down 12.43 percent from the same date in 2025, a decline he attributed to more expatriates choosing carpooling this year given the high cost of driving. Arrivals by sea have accelerated in recent days, reaching 1,430,811 people, or 52.19 percent of total entries, with Tanger Med port alone handling 512,693 travelers, ahead of Nador and Tanger Ville.
Air arrivals totaled 1,310,759 people, led by Casablanca’s Mohammed V Airport with 333,490 travelers, followed by Marrakech-Menara, Tangier-Ibn Battouta, and the airports of Nador and Rabat-Sale, Moussa Abdellah said, adding that all parties involved remain mobilized to ensure the best possible transit conditions for returning expatriates.
Tanger Med’s central director, Jaafar Ameyer, said the port has been coping with peak demand, citing August 2 as a record day with 31,917 travelers and 8,612 vehicles processed, up 4 percent and 5 percent respectively from the same date in 2025. Despite the volume, average time to exit the port stayed under 15 minutes thanks to national security and customs services, he said, crediting an additional fast ferry and ticket interchangeability between shipping companies for easing the flow.
