The fifth edition of Morocco With Purpose opened on Tuesday with a gala at the historic Chellah archaeological site in Rabat, drawing government officials, institutions, business leaders, invited guests and content creators to mark five years since the initiative’s launch.
Organizers described the event as a platform connecting Moroccans around the world while encouraging them to contribute to the country’s future through investment, collaboration and new projects. Omar El Aidi, co-founder of Morocco With Purpose and the Jalya Day project, said the gathering reflects five years of work and commitment to supporting Moroccans expatriates, with the aim of helping diaspora members give back by investing and creating opportunities at home.
El Aidi, who grew up in Canada, argued that Morocco is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for its diaspora. “There’s no more American dream. Right now, it’s the Moroccan dream,” he said, adding that more Moroccans abroad are returning to invest and build projects domestically.
Among the attendees was Adam Amellal, representing the Saudi Group Investment and travelling from Geneva, who was attending the event for a third time. He thanked organizer Hiba El Aidi and the Ministry of Youth for the invitation, saying the experience had deepened his connection to Morocco and encouraged him to pursue future business opportunities in the country.
“Morocco is the place to be,” Amellal said, expressing hope that he would eventually build a business venture in the kingdom. He added that the experience left him feeling “more Moroccan than ever.”
