Morocco-EU Association Council Meets in Brussels to Discuss Strategic Partnership

Morocco and the European Union holds this Thursday in Brussels the 15th meeting of their Association Council to look into ways of strengthening further dialogue and strategic partnership.
The meeting will be co-chaired by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas and Moroccan foreign minister Nasser Bourita. EU Commissioner for the Mediterranean Dubravka Šuica as well as the foreign ministers of several European countries will be attending.
The meeting is an opportunity for the two partners to exchange views on political, economic, trade and security matters as well as mobility, green transition, innovation and digital transition.
The 15th meeting of Morocco-EU Association Council is expected to address issues of common interests on the regional and international scene amid the new geostrategic landscape taking shape.
The European Union has extensive ties with the North African Kingdom in trade, political and security matters. The Union is also Morocco’s largest trade partner, accounting for 59% of its trade in goods trade in 2024. Over 67% of Morocco’s exports went to the EU, and 54% of Morocco’s imports came from the EU.
According to EU data, total trade in goods between the EU and Morocco in 2024 amounted to €60.6 billion. The EU’s imports from Morocco amounted to €25.3 billion, and were led by transport equipment (€7.1 billion, 28%), machinery and appliances (€6.2 billion, 24.6%), vegetable products (€3 billion, 11.8%) and textiles (€2.9 billion, 11.6%).
The EU’s exports to Morocco amounted to €35.3 billion. Exports were led by machinery and appliances (€8.8 billion, 24.9%), followed by transport equipment (€4.8 billion, 13.7%), mineral products (€4.2 billion, 11.8%), and base metals (€3.4 billion, 9.5%).
