MOROCCO’S KING VOICES DETERMINATION TO ADVANCE STRATEGIC PARTNERSHIP WITH INDIA

King Mohammed VI has expressed strong determination to strengthen further the strategic partnership set with India to serve the shared interests of the two countries.

In a message of congratulations sent to President of India Droupadi Murmu on the occasion of her country’s National Day, the Monarch lauded the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation existing between the two countries, saying the North African Kingdom looks forward to developing bilateral cooperation across various sectors.

The King has also offered His warmest congratulations and best wishes for good health & happiness to Murmu, and for continued progress and prosperity to the Indian people.

In 2024, India imported nearly $958 million worth of fertilizers from Morocco, making it the largest component of bilateral trade. Overall trade between the two countries reached $2.55 billion in 2025, up from $2.4 billion the previous year.

Morocco plays a pivotal role in India’s fertilizer ecosystem. OCP supplies roughly 20% of India’s phosphate rock imports, a third of its phosphoric acid needs, and dominates the market for processed fertilizers, covering over 90% of diammonium phosphate (DAP) and all triple superphosphate (TSP) consumed in the country.

OCP maintains a strong industrial footprint in India through stakes in Paradeep Phosphates Ltd and its joint venture Indo Maroc Phosphore SA with Chambal Fertilizers, ensuring local production capacity and supply chain resilience.

Indian exports to Morocco, ranging from pharmaceuticals and automotive components to textiles and electronics, have grown by more than 100% over the past two years.

The partnership is no longer limited to commodities. In September 2025, India’s Defense Minister Rajnath Singh visited Morocco and inaugurated Tata Advanced Systems Maroc plant in Berrechid. This is the first Indian defense manufacturing facility on the African continent.

The plant is producing WhAP 8×8 armoured vehicles for Morocco’s Royal Armed Forces and regional export markets. India views Morocco as a stable, forward-looking partner in a volatile region. Morocco, in turn, sees India as a source of innovation, investment, and strategic diversification. This convergence reflects a shared commitment to South-South cooperation, industrial sovereignty, and geopolitical balance.
