Jubilation sweeps Morocco as Atlas Lions roar into African Cup of Nations final

Morocco erupted in celebration after the Atlas Lions defeated Nigeria in a nail-biting African Cup of Nations semi-final, clinching victory on penalties and securing their first final appearance in over 20 years.

The historic triumph, staged in Rabat’s Moulay Abdellah Stadium in front of over 65,000 fans, brings Morocco closer than ever to reclaiming the continental crown they last won in 1976.

The match saw Morocco dominate possession and neutralize Nigeria’s attacking threats, before sealing the win 4–2 in a tense penalty shootout. Goalkeeper Yassine “Bono” replicated his success in front of Spain in 2022 World Cup stopping two Nigerian shots.

Across Rabat, Casablanca, Tangier, Marrakech, and countless towns and villages, tens of thousands poured into the streets waving flags, honking car horns, and chanting in national jerseys. Social media lit up with scenes of jubilation, mirrored by Moroccan communities abroad.

This AFCON has also showcased Morocco’s organizational excellence. The country introduced a World Cup-style model, assigning each of the 24 teams its own five-star base camp and private training facilities, earning praise from CAF ambassadors for setting a new benchmark in African football hosting.

With the final looming, Morocco stands on the brink of history. After decades of waiting, the Atlas Lions have a chance to bring the trophy home and crown a tournament that has united the nation in pride and passion.
