Morocco Redrawing Regional Energy Map

Morocco is poised to become a gas producer with the start of the initial gas commissioning activities at Tendrara Production Concession, shifting the regional energy order and landscape.

The North African Kingdom has launched lately two major international bids worth nearly $1 billion for the development of a first phase of a Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) hub.

The Moroccan government is looking for investors to build a floating storage & regasification unit (FSRU) that will be moored at the Nador West Med port.

Rabat is also planning the construction of new pipelines which will initially connect Nador West Med port to the Maghreb-Europe pipeline and then extend to industrial zones in Kenitra and Mohammedia.

The announcement of these strategic projects was made lately by the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development. More than 80 investors have expressed interest in these projects to be developed under the public-private partnership law.

Morocco is looking forward to meeting its growing national gas consumption expected to increase from the current 1.2 billion cubic meters to 8 BCM in 2027 driven by industrial growth and transition to green economy.
