Morocco’s Top Police Chief Awarded INTERPOL’s Highest Honor

The International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) decorated the Director-General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance, Abdellatif Hammouchi, with the Organization’s highest honor.

This high honor is in recognition of the exceptional efforts spent by the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance to strengthen security and stability at the regional and international levels, and to enshrine the values of partnership and solidarity between Arab countries and Interpol, the General Directorate of National Security (DGSN) said in a statement.

In this respect, INTERPOL emphasized that this high honor also embodies the Organization’s esteem to Hammouchi’s continued commitment to supporting international cooperation in law enforcement, his efficient contribution to building a safer and fairer world for everyone, as well as his major and distinguished role in bolstering Arab and international security cooperation and supporting joint action processes between Arab countries and the international criminal police Organization to fight against transnational organized crime, the statement points out.

The awarding ceremony of this prestigious honor took place during the closing session of INTERPOL 93rd General Assembly, held in Marrakech.

During the closing ceremony of this major global security gathering, Hammouchi said it was “a success” at all levels and all fronts, insisting that INTERPOL 93rd GA was “exceptional, both in terms of the number of States and international organizations attending, the quality and importance of the representation of member countries, and the significance of the resolutions and recommendations it adopted.”

“In the Kingdom of Morocco, we were convinced that this session would be a success and that it would serve as a prelude to strengthening multilateral security cooperation, as well as a foundation for facilitating bilateral cooperation between the Organization’s member States,” he noted.

Hammouchi stated further that Morocco is fully convinced that its security and the protection of its citizens depend on the security of all INTERPOL member States. This conviction stems from a deep belief that security is an integrated and indivisible system, based on joint and fair cooperation, mutual respect, as well as trust, credibility, and collective action.

The innovative resolutions and forward-looking recommendations emerging from this General Assembly are capable of helping address multiple security challenges and of strengthening stability, security and peace for all the peoples of the world, the Director General of National Security and Territorial Surveillance observed.

The session was attended by the President, the Secretary General, and members of the INTERPOL Executive Committee.
